For Elite adventurer, Charlie Engle, every day brings a new challenge. He has run through some of the most forbidding terrain on the planet and has learned many lessons about life along the sway. With a lot of determination and the ability to endure hardships in every way, Charlie has moved from a life of drugs and alcohol to a life of understanding and learning to live with himself. After many years of sobriety, he has become a top athlete, spokesperson and philanthropist.
In 2006, Charlie joined fellow ultramarathon runners Ray Zahab and Kevin Lin in running across the Sahara Desert, from the Senegal Coast to the Red Sea in Egypt. The 4,300 mile journey took 111 days. By the end they were averaging 50 miles a day! That’s almost two marathons every day, after running over 3000 miles. The journey was captured in a stunningly beautiful National Geographic film titled Running the Sahara.
