Burnt Feet

I am going to file this one under stupidity caused by Vicodin. I was passing the local high school track on my way back from seeing my general doctor (no more high blood pressure!) and decided I would do some barefoot walking on the infield – you know, the green area in the middle of the track. I thought going straight to the track might be a little too rough on my feet. So, I walked onto the field and took my shoes off at the pole vault area. I then began walking on the field. It felt nice to be barefoot, though a little warm. Then it started to feel kind of hot. Then very hot, quickly followed by scorchingly hot. Ouch! I looked down and saw a lot of black under the green paint and remembered just what fake grass is made of – old tire rubber! Even though the air was on the chilly side – probably only 60 degrees with the breeze – the field had still managed to get to a flesh-burning temperature. I started walking on the track, but that didn’t feel much better. It was indeed rough, and also hot. Now that I’m home I see that I have some blisters on the soft, middle part of my forefeett! First attempt at barefoot walking: shoes 1, me none.
