Icy Chia Fresca

Limes by Darwin Bell

Made this for the second day in a row. Pretty easy, nutritious, and surprisingly tasty and refreshing. I didn’t follow a recipe and am still experimenting. Let me know if you try this recipe or your own variation. Icy Chia Fresca Ingredients 1/2–1 Tbs Ground chia seed ~6 ice cubes 1/2 cup water 1/2 lime […]

The Jungle Effect

jungle_effect

I began reading The Jungle Effect: A Doctor Discovers the Healthiest Diets from Around the World—Why They Work and How to Bring Them Home by Daphne Miller, MD., over the weekend. I discovered the book while looking in the health section at Books, Inc. I had just finished Born to Run and was interested in […]

Sarah Palin Running

In the latest edition of Runner’s World, August 2009, there is an interview with Sarah Palin. In the interview, Sarah says that she notices her days don’t go as well when she doesn’t run. I have some advice for you, Sarah Palin: “Run more. A lot more. I want to see more running the roads […]

Dean Karnazes

Dean Karnazes When it comes to Dean Karnazes, there’s a lot of controversy. People tend to either love him, or hate him. And the line seems to exist between those who call themselves real ultrarunners, and those who aren’t familiar with any ultrarunners except Dean. While the biggest thing to admire about Dean is probably […]

Pam Reed

Pam Reed

Pam Reed Pam Reed has twice won the Badwater Ultramarathon, the world’s toughest running event. She is the American women’s record-holder in the 24-hour run (138.94 miles) and 48-hour run (220 miles). On Pins and Needles

Pins

I paid my first visit ever to an acupuncturist yesterday — her name is Beth. This was the first time I had ever visited one, and maybe even the first time I had ever come face to face with one. Turns out, they’re not necessarily sadochists who get pleasure out of inflicting pain on people. […]

The Sole of the Problem

header-soleoftheproblem

I recently finished reading Born to Run, A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. To say that it turned everything I thought I knew about running upside down would be an understatement. I literally discovered that things I had just learned about running – and from some of the most accomplished coaches out there – were completely wrong. In fact, some of the lessons people taught me could very well have been contributing to my injuries!

Break a Leg

I was at the park the other day with my two daughters. As I hobbled back from throwing something away in the trash can, my 7-year-old exclaimed, “You take forever!” I responded, “Yeah, I know.” I then thought out loud, “I wonder how long it will be before I can run faster than you again.” […]

2007 Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon

Here is a great compilation of photos by Barefoot Ted, taken during the 2007 Ultra Marathon in Copper Canyon. And make sure you pay close attention to the words in the background music! Hilarious. This race is the one that was set up by Caballo Blanco and told in the book Born to Run. Scott Jurek. […]
