Set Limits to Achieve Goals

Limits

Setting limits and having focus is critical in all areas of our lives, especially when it comes to running. Paradoxically, limits help us achieve our goals. They help us focus and keep us from spreading ourselves too thin. Instead of chasing numerous dreams, decide exactly what it is you want to achieve and then set limits where necessary to enable you to focus on your goals.

How I Lost My Virginity

Lost Virginity

It was a cool Saturday morning in the woods in the appropriately named town of Woodside. I was excited, but not overly – I had been practicing and training for this moment for a long, long time. In a way, I had been waiting for this day ever since I was a teenager. I spent countless days dreaming of how amazing it would feel. Especially at the end, after all of my hard work paid off.

Smoking’s a Good Habit

Smoking

Yes, you heard me right, smoking is a good habit. I envy smokers. They’ve figured out a way to regularly take a break in their hectic lives. And it’s often a social break at that. We could learn a lot from smokers.

The New Guide to Running Shoes

The New Shoe Guide

Up until recently, running shoes have mainly been classified in terms of motion control, stability, and arch support. Such classification requires a whole vocabulary of words, such as neutral, pronation, and advanced. When Minimal shoes are included in the mix, though, a new classification is called for. Without more than one category for anything less than the regular, large running shoes out there, most people will remain confused and even misguided when it comes to “barefoot” running shoes.

The Runner’s Body – Workout Sheets

Runners Body

While I was training for the San Francisco Half Marathon earlier in 2009 I discovered a four part series of videos on the Runner’s World website titled The Runner’s Body. The videos contained explanations and examples of stretches and exercises that target various areas of the body with running in mind. Being a visual learner I needed to create cheat sheets that I could glance at to help me remember each exercise.

Cause I Gotta Have Faith…

Faith

I have to admit, there were some days last week, when the pain crept back, that I began to wonder if I’d ever be free from it. During these times I feel like I’m sliding back down the mountain, passing everything that I thought was progress.. I begin to doubt if I’ve really made it that far, or if it was just a mirage in the desert. Will I ever be able to make back into the real world? Or am I banished for life to the land of the invalids?

On Cloud 9 with Chocolate #9

Chocolate #9

I was first impressed by the fact that Chocolate Agave #9 only has two ingredients: chocolate and agave. How many packaged foods only have 2 ingredients, both of which you can read and understand what they are?! The agave is organic and the chocolate 100% Belgian. I love how simple it is. No chemicals. No preservatives. No refined sugar. And all vegan to boot!

Chai Chia Pudding

Chai Chia

When combined with a plant-based, unrefined sugar, such as agave or raw honey, chia delivers sustained energy. The seeds actually create a physical barrier in the stomach between carbohydrates and digestive enzymes. This results in a slower absorption of sugar into the blood stream, meaning prolonged energy rather than “spiking and bonking.”

Review of The Runner

The Runner

Added drama or not, David Horton’s 66 day run of the 2700 mile long Pacific Crest Trail from the Mexico border to Canada was an incredible feat. It takes a lot of determination, grit, and will power to get yourself through all of the literal and metaphorical ups and downs over more than 2 months running through desert and mountains. While the movie attempts to and often successfully captures the mental stress such a trip causes, there’s certainly no way to get a real feel for how much this takes until you actually do it.
