I like just basic ingredients. No added colors or preservatives... AND I love chocolate.
A little costly - will see if my local REI store carries it.
Great review!

The reason this product has the glycemic index it does is because agave nectar is primarily made up of fructose. Simple fructose is not a naturally occurring material, and is manufactured by treating carbohydrates with heat or enzymes. Agave nectar is not digested in the stomach or intestine, but is passed through the bloodstream and filtered out by the liver, where it is metabolized into fats and deposited in the body. This is the reason there is no sugar rush. Agave nectar contains more fructose than high fructose corn syrup, which is manufactured using the same, or a very similar process, depending on the processor.

Thanks for sharing, Stephanie. I'm glad you are discovering the benefits of natural foods in High School. While my parents raised me pretty healthily, I didn't realize the need to avoid packaged food for quite some time later. I wish you the best of luck in your running and life quests! The giveaway ended, but I encourage you to contact Chocolate #9 for a trial pack - I love their gels.

Hi, I'm probably one of the very few teens at my high school interested in eating natural foods instead of refined items for their benefits. I do believe in the saying "you are what you eat", and I definitely don't want to "become" something in packaged foods I can't even pronounce! I'm on my schools varsity cross-country and track team, which has made me more conscious of what I eat on a daily basis.Good nutrition cannot be stressed enough in athletic and mental performance. I have tried running on brown rice syrup/energy bars with brown rice syrup, but I would love to see how I feel with agave nectar, being a much lower GI.

I'm into trying the Chocolate #9, because I've recently started using agave myself. Also, I'm pondering a switch from my current running gels (Gu) to something else, so it's worth a try. :)
