Seize the day.
I’m trying to live by this mantra. A year ago I couldn’t walk, sit, or even lie down without being in a ton of pain. Even doped up on Vicodin. I longed to be active. To run. Jump. Climb. Now, after eight months of pain, five months of rehab, and countless hours dreaming of better days, I’m able to do most everything!
The problem is I too often find myself tired and searching for motivation. The stress of work and from a body that’s still healing are remaining challenges to overcome. Yet there will always be obstacles. I can’t let these stop me from enjoying a physical life.
One great motivator is reading some of the blog posts that I wrote while lying in bed. As I read the posts filled with hope and longing it all comes back to me. I remember the feeling of being trapped, unable to do much of anything. I was left only able to live vicariously through reading books about running and watching videos of mountain climbing. I’m suddenly hit with an emotional punch that I am now able to do the very things I could only dream of. It’s a good kick in the pants to get out the door.
When motivation is waning, think back to a time when you couldn’t do as much as you can now and seize the day. Make it happen folks!
Carpe diem! What are you going to accomplish today?

Hi Clynton,
Good to hear that you are up and running.
I agree with the reading of blogpost or, for example, music / videos to get you fired up. I think this is a great one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnqpYKx
What also works for me is to realize that you provide inspiration and motivation for others. You are inspiration! It’s easier to quit on but you can’t disappoint your friends and fans.
Thanks!
Thanks man!
Yes, certain music (for me, Muse) works really well. The video on the sidebar to the right is one of my favorite videos to inspire me to run.
Unfortunately the link didn’t work to the video — I’d like to see it.
Thanks for taking the time to connect — I find a ton of inspiration from all of you, each comment is a boost of adrenaline for me.
