Sweet EVOlution

Evo

Overview When Terra Plana asked if I would be willing to test and review a pair of their new EVO running shoes I was thrilled. I had been enjoying wearing the Aqua shoes they gave me almost every day since I received them last year. Now, with a shoe designed specifically for running, I couldn’t […]

Intro to Barefoot Running Class

Intro Class

On your mark, get set, take your shoes off! I’m excited to share that I’ll be putting on a barefoot running class at my local CrossFit gym Saturday, August 21. I’m thrilled to have found a coach and gym owner who get the importance of barefoot running in helping improve running form and how returning to […]

The Rules Still Apply, Even if Barefoot Running

Foot

A recent article in Competitor Magazine, titled The Barefoot Running Injury Epidemic, shares how some sports medicine doctors, podiatrists, and physical therapists are seeing a dramatic upswing in patients suffering from barefoot running injuries. One physical therapist in California says that he has “four or five current patients with heel injuries clearly resulting from a […]

Let Your Body Guide You

Headstand

Photo by Christian Haugen There I was, at the moment of a big decision. Should I trust that I could turn my world upside down without injuring myself or listen to the voice in my head and play it safe. I stood in front of the wall, others watching, my mind racing, weighing my odds […]

10 More Things I Learned From Barefoot Ted

Barefoot Ted Class2

This is a follow-up to the post, 10 Things I Learned from Barefoot Ted, that I wrote after taking his first Advanced Barefoot Running class. This post covers what I learned from assisting him in Beginner Barefoot Running classes. I recently had the pleasure of assisting Barefoot Ted put on two running clinics at ZombieRunner […]

Carpe diem!

Open Arms

Seize the day. I’m trying to live by this mantra. A year ago I couldn’t walk, sit, or even lie down without being in a ton of pain. Even doped up on Vicodin. I longed to be active. To run. Jump. Climb. Now, after eight months of pain, five months of rehab, and countless hours dreaming […]

Snake Attack!

Snake Attack

I haven’t suffered any real injuries from wearing my Vibram Five Fingers, the glove-like “shoes” I’ve been running in for the past 10 months. However, I came dangerously close to a very serious injury from a snake bite last weekend. While the shoes didn’t provide any protection in the way of coverage, the issue was actually the light running form they help me run in.

You Won’t Run Barefoot

AdamEve

The reason so many people bristle at the idea of running without shoes on has little to do with the ickiness factor and everything to do with a story about an apple, a serpent, and a naked man and woman in a perfect world. Let me explain.

Tears of Relief

Tears of Relief

A wave of relief rolled over me with such force it spilled out my eye in the form of a tears. All of the emotions that came with 9 months of pain, agony, and finally progress rushed back to me as I exited the office building of my back doctor, head high with no pain.

Running Scared

Running Scared

Trying to play to people’s fears in an effort to stop them from being informed will surely fail. Especially when research from none other than Harvard is being published. Trying to combat information with fear doesn’t work for long (one need only look at some previous US administrations to see that). Indeed, the only effective way to go up against information is with credible and convincing counter-information.
