SF Marathon 2009

I spent most of my day at the San Francisco Marathon yesterday. After I dropped off my mother, father, sister, and her boyfriend at the starting line, I headed to the 1 mile mark and watched the elite runners speed by. At first I felt a little sad that I wasn’t going to be running […]

Keeping the Hope

Half of my battle is mental. While I have nearly constant physical pain, I have to also battle with my mind. Some days I wake up filled with hope and thoughts of running freely through the mountains. Others, like today, it’s hard to feel motivated to do anything, even dream. But I do. I figure […]

Little Feet

My 3-year-old daughter was running the length of the house this afternoon. You should have seen the huge smile she had on her face. She was having so much fun practicing new forms – kicking her heels up high behind her, leaping forward in large strides, skipping. It reminded me how running is one of […]

Red Lentil Soup with Lemon

Red Lentils

My wife discovered this recipe in the New York Times a few years back. She gave the recipe a try and we all loved it. I found all of the taste qualities I desire in a soup to be present and deemed it a ten out of ten. It has become a staple in our […]

Something Different

This blog is working out well for me. I enjoy how it provides me with an outlet to write – something I am re-realizing I quite enjoy – gives me something to design and craft myself, and lets me log my learnings and thoughts about running and life in a central location. It is becoming […]

Sarah Palin Running

In the latest edition of Runner’s World, August 2009, there is an interview with Sarah Palin. In the interview, Sarah says that she notices her days don’t go as well when she doesn’t run. I have some advice for you, Sarah Palin: “Run more. A lot more. I want to see more running the roads […]

The Sole of the Problem

header-soleoftheproblem

I recently finished reading Born to Run, A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. To say that it turned everything I thought I knew about running upside down would be an understatement. I literally discovered that things I had just learned about running – and from some of the most accomplished coaches out there – were completely wrong. In fact, some of the lessons people taught me could very well have been contributing to my injuries!

Break a Leg

I was at the park the other day with my two daughters. As I hobbled back from throwing something away in the trash can, my 7-year-old exclaimed, “You take forever!” I responded, “Yeah, I know.” I then thought out loud, “I wonder how long it will be before I can run faster than you again.” […]

A Beast in the Night

Beast

I had this dream last night. I often don’t remember my dreams, but this one is still quite vivid to me. In it I was lying on the grass, enjoying the blue sky when all of a sudden I was being kicked. I remember several thoughts running through my head in a flash. What would […]

Five Froggy Fingers

Frog With Toes

I recently finished reading the incredibly eye-opening and delightfully inspiring book Born to Run, by Christopher McDougall. In it, Chris introduces us to Barefoot Ted, a big man with a big mouth and an equally big heart who used to have terrible foot pains that crippled his running ability. He began to walk without shoes […]
